Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
An important official stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
