Minister Confirms MoD Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Told to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the possible threats posed by Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been advised to refrain from discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recent appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that MoD officials have been told not to discuss secret material while travelling in Chinese cars.

He said that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, however noted that safety is a issue in all modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having discussions at a secret classification in any car, due to the growing risks of surveillance that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those secret conversations in protected areas. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using every Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Security Background

This announcement comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to disable buses and bring chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship was reportedly shining laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

The broader security situation underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in every areas of government activities, from vehicle usage to discussions practices.
