Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extended clash where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
