Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
